February 2026 . . . ESCOM Receives $10,000 Grant to Expand Digital Skills Training for Older Adults in Marin County
Emeritus Students College of Marin (ESCOM) has been awarded a $10,000 grant from AT&T and Senior Planet (AARP) to expand computer and digital-skills training for older adults throughout Marin County. The funding will support a series of technology courses and workshops developed by AT&T and Senior Planet and delivered locally through ESCOM’s longstanding partnership with the College of Marin.
The grant recognizes the collaborative efforts of ESCOM, the College of Marin, and the Marin County Commission on Aging to broaden lifelong learning opportunities for residents across the county. In particular, the partnership has focused on helping older adults build confidence in using computers, smartphones, and online services to stay connected and engaged.
Through the grant, ESCOM will offer practical, hands-on instruction designed to meet older adults at all skill levels. Courses will cover everyday tools and applications, including email, Zoom, online healthcare portals, and access to community resources. The goal is to ensure participants not only understand how to use technology but feel comfortable incorporating it into their daily lives.
“Access to technology is essential for staying connected, informed, and independent,” said Gary Gonser, President of ESCOM. “This grant allows us to meet older adults where they are and provide practical skills that improve everyday life — from using email and Zoom to accessing healthcare and community resources online.”
Founded more than 50 years ago, ESCOM is a nonprofit organization committed to promoting intellectual, social, and cultural engagement for older adults. Through education and community involvement, ESCOM continues to expand opportunities for lifelong learning and meaningful connection in Marin County.
